Although museums interact with colleagues across the country and around the world, our local audience is always an important priority. Many museums are actively trying to increase the numbers and kinds of local people who visit us so that everyone can benefit from the collections.
For example, The Egypt Centre (part of the University of Wales, Swansea) runs an Out of School Hours activities club, as well as a large and successful volunteer programme that has attracted non-traditional volunteers to the field.
